PEP: Post-Exposure Prophylaxis
If you had a possible exposure to HIV within the last 72 hours, PEP is an emergency medication regimen that can prevent HIV from taking hold.
The 72-Hour Rule
PEP must be started as soon as possible, ideally within 24 hours, and no later than 72 hours after potential exposure. Once started, it is taken daily for 28 days.
Golden Treatment Window
Starting antiretroviral prophylaxis within the first 24 hours provides maximum protection against cellular HIV integration.
Still Highly Effective
PEP remains indicated up to 72 hours. Do not wait for Monday or clinic hours — proceed to the nearest hospital casualty immediately.
Baseline Testing Protocol
Standard PEP is not initiated after 72 hours. An ICTC counsellor will evaluate your transmission risk, provide a baseline test, and plan follow-up.

Go directly to the ICTC or ART Centre room. No general ticket required for confidential consultations.
